Clubs and Committees

A variety of activities, committees, groups, and service opportunities are provided at Carlyle Place to enhance the lives of our residents. The staff of our Resident Life Department encourages you to participate in these opportunities to stimulate your mental, physical, cultural and spiritual lives.

Service Groups

Lunches for the Homeless
Help pack sack lunches for homeless people in Macon. A group of residents pack lunches every 2nd, 3rd, and 5th Monday afternoon to be delivered to Loaves and Fishes Ministry on Tuesdays.

Carlyle Place Recycling
Join Carlyle place residents when they recycle paper products and drink cans every Monday morning. Be a part of this team as they conserve our resources and give back to the community.

Sonny Carter Elementary School
Volunteer with our neighboring elementary school.

Carlyle Place Health Centers
If you are interested in volunteering at Carlyle Place, many opportunities are available in our Health Centers.

Resident Advisory Council

The Resident Advisory Council provides effective and meaningful communication between residents and administration in a formal manner. This council is elected on an annual basis by the residents. Through the Resident Council, residents may share with management their concerns, ideas, problems and suggestions in a constructive manner. Issues may be discussed and recommendations made as to how resident ideas can be implemented. Likewise, administration may share its concerns, ideas, explanations and plans with an understanding group who is truly representative of the resident population.

Resident Committees

Committees meet at regular times as determined by the committee and at such other times as deemed necessary by the chairperson. Minutes of all meetings are taken and distributed to all committee members with a copy sent to the Resident Advisory Council President and the Executive Director. A binder is kept in the library which contains copies of minutes from the Resident Advisory Council meetings as well as all other committee meetings. Council members or other designated persons are responsible for keeping the binder updated.

The following is a list of Carlyle Place committees and a brief description of their functions:

Programming Committee
Members provide input to the Resident Life Department regarding the types of programs and activities to be scheduled in the community.

Dining Services Committee
Members review the operation of the Dining Services Department. Suggestions are made for menu changes, service improvements and special events that will enhance the dining experience of all residents.

Library Committee
Members provide information on on policy, equipment, and books displayed in the library. Their goal is to provide a “browsing” home type lending library that will be of maximum benefit to all residents.

Safety & Security Committee
Members communicate observations, concerns and suggestions about safety and security to Carlyle Place Management; and communicates information about safety and security to residents, for the purpose of education.

Interfaith Committee
The purpose of this committee is to promote a climate of tolerance for divergent religious (and other) views and beliefs, and to raise consciousness among Carlyle Place residents about potential areas of conflict or aggravation of other people. The committee encourages maintaining a “level playing field” for expressions of various religious and spiritual values/beliefs. It serves as a sounding board for issues which might arise regarding spiritual or religious expressions, events and displays. It helps ensure that religious events/expressions-—especially those which are overtly symbolic of certain doctrines—are presented in venues where residents have a choice of whether or not they attend the event.

Development Committee
Members articulate the vision of the Carlyle Place Endowment Fund and share this vision with others interested in preserving the excellence of Carlyle Place. Members of the Endowment Committee identify and cultivate potential donors among Carlyle Place residents and others such as family members with an interest in the community.
The goal of the Development Committee is to build an Endowment Fund to support programs, services, and capital items for Carlyle Place and to use the earnings to support in whole or in part, residents who, through no fault of their own, have financial reversals which could threaten their ability to remain at Carlyle Place.

Conservation Committee
The purpose of this committee is to increase resident and staff awareness concerning energy conservation and maximum cost effectiveness, without compromising our safety and comfort.

Welcoming Committee
The purpose of this committee is to assure that every new resident is greeted upon moving into Carlyle Place and offered a helping hand to learn the Carlyle Community. The committee also serves as a support network when needs arise in the community. The committee works in conjunction with the Director of Resident Life and the Move-In Coordinator.

Health and Wellness Committee
Members review the health and wellness programs offered at Carlyle Place and makes suggestions and plans for continued wellness. Members plan and participate in the implementation of Health Fairs, special event Health Days, and other wellness related activities and educational opportunities.

Special Interest Groups

Carlyle Book Club
The Carlyle Book Club meets once a month in the Activities Room in the Lower Level the 2nd Thursday of every month at noon.

Lunch and Learn
Every odd month, all residents are welcome to attend Lunch and Learn.

Carlyle Bums Breakfast Club
Every 3rd Saturday morning of the month, this group of men gathers in the Grande for breakfast and fellowship. Newcomers are always welcome.

Carlyle Choristers
If you enjoy participating in a choral group, this is the group for you. This newly formed group of residents, who enjoy singing, welcomes new members.

Red Hat Society
The Red Hat Society was started in 1998 by Sue Ellen Cooper of Fullerton California. It is open to women fifty and over who dare to wear RED HATS with purple clothing. This is a wonderful and fun organization.

Playlike Players of Carlyle Place
Members read plays and skits aloud (no memorization required) for their own amusement, and possible public presentation, under direction of dramatist, Mary Hurt, of Macon

Other Group Activities
All of our groups/activities are too numerous to list individually, but include activities like billiards, Chip and Putt, Bingo, Covered Dish Dinners, Bible Study groups, Great Poems Discussions, Parkinson’s Support Group, Alzheimer’s Support, Spiritual Groups, Cooking Classes/Shows and Ballroom Dancing.
