Carlyle Place, the only community offering continuing care for seniors in Central Georgia, was recognized by the American Health Care Association with a coveted Bronze Award recently at its annual convention. The accolade is especially meaningful as the retirement community has celebrated its 10th anniversary this past year.

The Washington D.C. based association, together with the National Center for Assisted Living, developed a program in 1996 to assist health care providers of long-term and post-acute care following hospitalization to reach the highest levels of performance possible. Achievement at each of three strategic levels is determined by a trained team of examiners, which evaluates systems in place, goals for the future and adherence to essential criteria.

“We are proud of this accomplishment,” says Tom Rockenbach, Executive Director at Carlyle Place, “especially as it comes at such an early date in our existence.” He continues, “of course, success at this level involves more than superior nursing skills. All departments and activities at Carlyle contribute to our outstanding record. ”

Debra Morgan, Director of Health Services at Carlyle Place, echoes his pride. “We are dedicated to professionalism in every area. In addition, we strive to maintain a caring environment which is so important in this stage of our senior population’s lives.”

Carlyle Place Receives National Award for Commitment to Quality Services:

Macon, Georgia, July 5, 2011– Carlyle Place has been recognized as a 2011 recipient of the Bronze – Commitment to Quality National Quality Award for its outstanding performance in the health care profession. The award, presented by the American Health Care Association and National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL), highlights facilities across the nation that have demonstrated their intention to pursue a rigorous quality improvement system.

“This award signifies a great commitment to quality care and an important step in raising the standards of sustainable, person-centered care and services,” says Governor Mark Parkinson, President and CEO of AHCA/NCAL. “We congratulate Carlyle Place on this achievement.”

Implemented by AHCA/NCAL in 1996, the National Quality Award Program is centered on the core values and criteria of the Baldrige Performance Excellence Program. The program assists providers of long term and post-acute care services in achieving their performance excellence goals.

The program has three levels: Bronze, Silver, and Gold. Facilities begin the quality improvement process at the Bronze level, where they develop an organizational profile with essential performance elements such as vision and mission statements and an assessment of customers’ expectations. Bronze applicants must demonstrate their ability to implement a performance improvement system. A team of trained Examiners reviews each Bronze application to determine if the facility has met the demands of the criteria. As a recipient of the Bronze – Commitment to Quality award, Carlyle Place may now move forward in developing approaches and achieving performance levels that meet the criteria required for the Silver – Achievement in Quality award.

“The recipients of the quality awards exemplify the energy and dedication required to advance quality care to the next level,” says Chick Stepahin, Chair, AHCA/NCAL National Quality Award Board of Overseers. “Improving quality care is an evolutionary cycle, and these facilities are the forerunners of the movement.”

The awards are sponsored by AHCA/NCAL Associate Business Member My InnerView, a Web-based applied research and quality-management company that supports leaders across the entire assisted living, senior housing and skilled nursing profession with tools to measure, benchmark and improve performance. Carlyle Place was one of the facilities to receive the Bronze level award. The award will be presented to Carlyle Place during AHCA/NCAL’s 62nd Annual Convention and Exposition, September 18-21, 2011 in Las Vegas, NV.

By Larry Fennelly – Special to the Telegraph (5/27/11)

I’m told that of all the various interest groups at Carlyle Place on Zebulon Road, the most popular is the one focusing on poetry. Thus we shouldn’t be surprised that the Carlyle Poetry Discussion Group and the Macon Writers Club are teaming up for a Celebration of Poetry on June 4 in the Grande Auditorium at Carlyle Place. The event is the brainchild of Kevin Cantwell of Macon State College and retired Mercer professor Benjamin Griffith, and will feature members of both sponsoring organizations, plus various Macon poets (including Seaborn Jones) and students from Mercer and MSC.
